The Meaning of the Ascension Icon

The Ascension is one of the Twelve Great Feasts, celebrated on the fortieth day of Pascha. Scripture recounts that the risen Christ blessed His disciples and was taken up into heaven. The angels announced that He would come again.

Christ ascends in His glorified humanity and is seated at the right hand of the Father. The eternal Son remains truly God and truly man. His bodily departure does not mean that He abandons His Church.

The Ascension icon directs our hope toward life with Christ and His promised return, encouraging faithful prayer and witness while we await Him.
