The Meaning of the Saint Minas Icon

Saint Minas, also known as Menas, is honored as a martyr of the early fourth century. His traditional Life describes an Egyptian soldier who withdrew from military service during the persecution of Christians and devoted himself to prayer.

He later publicly confessed his faith in Christ, endured torture, and was beheaded. The Church preserves accounts of help received through his intercessions and remembers him for his steadfast witness under persecution.

An icon of Saint Minas calls to mind the courage to remain faithful when confession brings hardship. His life directs us toward trust in God and a willingness to place the Gospel above worldly security.
